Here at Tar River Fox Preserve, we have made numerous upgrades and improvements.
KENNELS - Top grade kennel facilities are available for use at Tar River. There are 150 public kennels that are roomy enough to hold 5 hounds each and there are other kennels at our disposal on site. In all, Tar River is equipped to house 1000 hounds comfortably.
CAMPERS FOR RENT AND CAMPER SPACES - We have camper spaces for rent at $15 per night each hunt. Permanent camper spaces are $200 for the entire year. We also have available a clean and tidy camper to rent for $50 per night that sleeps 4 people. We have a cottage for rent that sleeps 2, also $50 per night. Call Robin D. Barefoot at 919-820-3405 for availability.
BUNK HOUSE - The bunk house has been completely renovated with new furniture downstairs including a big screen TV with DirecTV. The two bathrooms located downstairs have been tastefully decorated and the entire downstairs lounge area has a fresh coat of paint. Upstairs there are 12 new mattresses and beds and the floor has been carpeted. Use of the bunk house is $15 per night per person and a visiting association has the option of renting out the entire bunk house to house "judges only." Please contact David Bailey or James Ray for those prices.
LADIES RETREAT - We are now 'girl friendly' at Tar River with the ladies room undergoing a complete revamping. Fresh paint, new pictures and wall hanging decor, complete with fresh curtains and a 'stained glass window' add a feminine touch. In addition, there is now a lounge area for the ladies and small children. A place to get out of the cold where our kids can play with a few toys provided or perhaps color and read a book. We have added a "training potty" for our littlest hunters which is located in the ladies room and an infant changing table and play pen, also in the ladies retreat.
KITCHEN - Most importantly, our kitchen sparkles with freshly painted walls and flooring. We have added an industrial tea brewer and a large pig cooker and the new "chef" DeDe Sherron providing the judges, hunters and participants with fresh, home-cooked meals for breakfast and lunch.
PAVILION - Tar River has added a Pavilion, perfect for awards ceremonies, bench shows and even entertainment such as a band or a DJ. We have installed a new PA system with wireless microphones and bluetooth capability. Make sure when your name is called, EVERYONE hears it!! Plenty of lighting, lots of seating.
HIGH TECH - Tar River now has internet access and Wi-Fi available. For sporting events, we are fully equipped with a computer, printer and we provide, for a fee, our very best data entry person, Richelle Baer. Association secretaries now have the option of having their complete hunting program results, whether National or Master's program, loaded onto a thumb drive for the convenience of sending the results into The Chase and The Hunter's Horn. For Master's affiliated hunts, daily score sheets can now be loaded onto the Master's website if so desired and National affiliated hunts can email their results to The Chase immediately upon the conclusion of the hunt at the secretary's discretion.
