Fellowship

Named after our long-time friend and supporter, R.A. Keith, it seems the kitchen is the heart of our preserve.  R.A. passed away in December of 2012 but the memories and the stories live on.  R.A. was a staple around here, getting more and more involved with Tar River since 2001.  He was a trapper, he ran hounds and he fed the game.  In addition, he was a fierce contender in the bench shows, making multiple bench show champions.  Along with enjoying a hot cup of coffee, R.A. loved his Sun Drop sodas, saying often that it was "the only kind of drink."  He loved sharing a meal in the kitchen with his friends but his all time favorite food was Reese's peanut butter cups.

Tar River has made enumerous upgrades in the last few years.  Our kitchen now includes a tea maker for sweet and unsweetened tea, of course a coffee maker, a deep fryer, a hot dog and bun warmer and an ice machine.  Beginning in 2019, we will begin selling bags of ice, eliminating the numerous trips to the store or town that so many of our hunters have what they need while visiting with us.

Buffet style

Breakfast and lunch are served daily during each hunt, buffet style for the judges and small plates and special orders for our hunters and participants.  Judges meals are $8 and plates made after the buffet is cleared are also $8.  In addition, we can provide judges snacks while in the field judging for the price of $2.50 per judge.  Snacks consist of a drink or water and an assortment of nabs, Debbie cakes and chips.

Special orders of breakfast sandwiches, hash browns, grits, eggs, bacon, sausage, toast and jelly along with milk, tea, coffee and orange juice made fresh each morning.
The lunch menu offers a variety of items on the buffet bar daily; spaghetti and salad, fried chicken and fresh vegetables and always hot dogs, burgers, cheeseburgers, fries, BLT's and chick filet sandwiches.

Located within the kitchen you will find our bulletin board.  Please come in for a meal or drink and keep yourself up to date on all the events in and around Tar River, including a 2019 calendar, listing all the hunts scheduled at Tar River.

For association secretaries wishing to speak to our chef, Dede Sherron about any special meals or services in addition to breakfast and lunch, please contact her at 919-729-7155.  Please leave her a message.
